SL Viewers

(english version)

English version

The number of viewers for Second Life has been increasing. Starting with those “official” available from Linden Lab, as mentioned here in detail and updated here, to the ones developed by other entities and individuals. Some of the “alternative” viewers we have tried are as follows:

OnRez is rather interesting. Besides including features like going back and forward an avatar’s teleporting history, it allows the person behind the avatar to browse the internet while inworld with an awesome tool named The Loop. On top of this all, it seems a lighter viewer than usual. A clear good option for specific ocasions (like taking a look at what is buzzing the blogosphere!).

Dale Glass

Based on the 1.18.4 version by Linden Lab, Dale Glass has introduced some new features “on top” aboard the official release which are pretty much detailed in his download page. For a standard user like myself, what really delighted me was the possibility to check some of my friends details (age, distance, situation, etc). But the most awesome stuff in Dale’s came as I surprise when I clicked a friend’s name. Just like that I started watching himself the very same way he did as if I was at his viewer…

realXtend shows up as another nice option and is pretty much described at PalUP Ling’s blog, Discursos do Outro Mundo.

AjaxLife

It allows any user to access the grid allowing for different functions, through a standard browser. What really surprised me was the fact that it has been created by a 15 year old teen, Katharine Berry, who has decided to reduce her exposure to SL.

Disclaimer: to try whatever viewer different from those released by Linden Lab, I always use a alt.
